About Us
Your hosts Linda and William have a great love of Dartmouth's history. We can enlighten you on all aspects of its origins, as well as make suggestions to make your visit a memorable and enjoyable experience.
We are both active members of the Dartmouth Players, acting singing, writing, directing and appearing at the Flavel Theatre, Dartmouth. In 2007 Linda adapted Oscar Wilde’s “An Ideal Husband” into a new musical called “The Perfect Man”, in collaboration with Norman Cork who wrote the lyrics and music. In the production Linda played Mrs Cheveley and William played Sir Robert Chiltern.
We have enacted “Dartmouth of a Thousand Years”, the history of the town from 1,000 - 2,000 and appeared as Dartmouth’s famous privateer John Hawley and his wife Alice. In 2008, the 600th anniversary of Hawley's death and we were heavily involved in the celebrations. Linda wrote an orginal play about Hawley , "Blow The Wind Fair" which was performed in St Saviour's Church, a few feet from his tomb. Chaucer is thought to have been describing John Hawley (or William Smales) in the Canterbury Tales.
We have a sailing boat on the River Dart and enjoy this area as much as you will.
